Well, it looks like croup is visiting the Gibbins house again this year! Reef went to bed Thursday with just a little runny nose but woke up at 11 gasping for breath and barking like a seal. I hate hearing that sound over the monitor!! Now that he's older, it was a lot harder to calm his panic, and for a little while, I thought we might need an ambulance. We were able to calm him down after a few minutes in the cool night air but he was still barking, so I knew we were headed to the ER.
Troy called our friends, the Chapmans, and luckily Monica zipped right over to stay with Jonas and Lachlan, so we could both take Reef to the ER.
Less than a mile from the hospital, there was a major car accident and our side of the road was closed!! Troy spoke with a police officer (Reef thought the cars were super cool and calmed down so much I wondered if we even needed the ER!), and he directed traffic so we drive on the wrong side of the road to make it to the hospital. We chose Stone Oak Methodist for this visit since it's so close and we were hoping our friend, Bob, was working. We lucked out, and Dr. Bob was there to fix us up!
Reef did great through his racemic epinephrine nebulizer and steroid dose and was all clear only 15 minutes later. He was so funny-he pointed to the TV and, with a twinkle in his eye, said, "So, does that TV work?" Since Bob knew we lived close by and would come back at the first sign of more trouble, he let us leave without waiting the usual 3 hours after the treatment. We were so thankful to be back home so quickly, and the other boys never even knew we were gone! On the way home, Reef said, "I hope Jonas and Lachlan had a good time." He was definitely not aware it was the middle of the night!
Friday was a little rough, with both me and Troy being very tired and both boys being pretty whiny. Reef didn't understand why he couldn't run around like usual. Today his energy is back but the cough is really kicking in. Lachlan and Jonas have also inherited the green, snotty noses, so I'll have my hands full for a few days!
